Aquabitat is a company in Cozumel that has proposed an underwater display that would recreate the reproduction of marine life and corals, using technology which allows placement of replicas of archeological monuments underwater.it could be the first museum in Latin America to offer a traditional display as well as an underwater attraction with educational benefits. The structures are composed of carbon fiber, natural pigments and certified organic resins with no toxic emissions, and reinforced with stainless steel. Similar structures have been installed at Villablanca Beach. The plan is to recreate a Maya city underwater. GOOD LUCK! that will be something diferent to see.
Last Tuesday about 14:00, Francine Cousteau, widow of the oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, who discovered Cozumel inaugurated the artificial reef that begun to be constructed months ago. the new artificial reef that goes for name “ Lol'ha “, whose name in Mayan means “ water flower ”, which is inspired in the legend that tells the form in which the sea received his color.
The above mentioned reef was constructed by the use of 56 thousand tons of batteries of concrete that were original part of Puerta Maya Pier that Wilma destroyed in 2005.
These artificial reef is situated by “Las Casitas” beach at the north side of the island.
The artificial reef was created with the idea of reducing the number of divers who every day saturate the reefs that are located inside the marine park which will be promote the northern site of the island as well.
Don’t forget to check that out on your next diving trip to the Island take some photos and shared with us.
The National Hurricane Center projects that Ike will weaken considerably over the next 36 hours as it travels westward across Cuba but then strengthen as it reemerges over warm water -- the source of a hurricane's power. Ike could once again be a Category 3 storm by Friday.
For Cozumel, strong wins and a little increase on the tie waves has been reported with some scared showers, The Island are taking all precautions and the Cruise ship industry has change their itineraries, this may benefit the Island. Several cruises has already change their destinations, and they considered Cozumel as the next port of call.
Diving has been affected due the high tie waves and the port has closed the navigation to all small boats.
The Island has been rated as 2nd best destination in the Caribbean per the cruise ship industries, The Bahamas is now the number 1. Cozumel was rated number 1 for many years.
Why Cozumel become the 2nd best destination of the Caribbean?
The reason is simple, from the 100% of the cruise passengers, 50% are between 18-40 years old, 10% are between 6-17 years old, and the last 40% are more than 40 years old.
Only 65% of the passengers of all edges disembarks to the Island and 15% out of the 65% of passengers that disembark to Cozumel actually go to the beach or go to any aquatic adventures, like diving or snorkeling, basically is a very poor percentage of cruise ship people that actually enjoy and discover Cozumel in a short amount of time. That small percentage actually return to Cozumel and stay longer so they can explore more and discover the beautiful places that Cozumel offers.
The Cruises are no longer staying late they usually leave by 5pm and no to may of the passengers have the opportunity to enjoy the night life. The 55% left over only come to the Island for Shop, Drink and Eat in that precise order. We all know that Cozumel is much more that just Shop, Drink, and Eat the actually main attraction of the Island is the Coral Reef and the beautiful beaches and not to many people actually knows that.
I want to show you that Cozumel remains the number one destination in the Caribbean visit: www.mexicandiver.com and book your trip Ill make you an itinerary that not to many know. Whether you arrive by Cruise or Plane is lots to explore. Visit my site and check my trip advices.

With these check points, it is guaranteed that in the nights there are no vehicles in the zones where the blue crab journeys, since one of the principal causes of death, of these crustaceans, is that they are squashed by cars.

The direction of Environment and Ecology of Cozumel, is promoting the project so called “ Center of Investigation and Conservation of Cozumel ”, which consists of the entire protection of the “Cenote” located inside the urban area, The DEEC and the local authorities are planning to turn the “Cenote” into an ecological park to benefit the community.
The “Cenote” is located in the 65 AV between 31 and 33 Street. The Community had mentioned that in the “Cenote” they fund Mayan traces, this discoveries where registered after the visit of a group of expert divers and archaeologists who arrived at the island years ago, and plundered these treasures of the country and of the whole culture.
This is why the Cozumel government is planning to build a Center of Investigation and Conservation a round the 5 acres surrounding the “Cenote” with the propose to preserve and give shelter to many wile life.
I remember this back then, but no body actually pay much attention to this Cenote is obvious that due the expansion of the colonies and increment of the population in the Island are opening the eyes of the authorities, when they could done this years ago.
